For this week's design tip, we're highlighting this room transformation by Zephyr! Here's Zephyr on her design process:
Step 1: Get a sense of what a client really wants and needs. In this case, she wanted the room to feel cozy and complete but was struggling to finish it. After our in-home design consult, I got a feel for her needs and started assessing the room. The sectional she had in the space was too big and needed to go to make way for a better-scaled furniture floor plan. (We moved it upstairs to the den where it fit perfectly!)
Step 2: Work with existing pieces and go from there. She had a fabulous dining table and a chandelier that had been hung too low and needed adjusting. I also used her rug and media cabinet as a basis for the new floor plan.
Step 3: Add color! Don’t be afraid of vivid pops color in otherwise neutral settings. We chose a midnight blue performance velvet on our Nimbus down sofa and a yummy dark blue geometric cut velvet for the outside of our Lily chairs, pairing the inside with a linen-like, easy-to-clean performance fabric. This makes them both an amazing style statement and practical for real-life living.
We also added a bold watercolor print, an amazing pair of alabaster floor lamps, a modern concrete coffee table, and brass drum side tables. The client's array of houseplants provided the finishing touch, and the space now has a modern, sophisticated but also very relaxed and inviting vibe.
I cherish the feeling of having helped yet another happy client love where they live!
